An interesting look at the “Hook-up Generation.” This article is somewhat confused in the fact that it acknowledges that female sexual liberation is positive but I think it’s also a bit too alarmist. I don’t believe that casual hookups prevent people from being able to make meaningful connections later on. I think that the quotes from the young people she interviewed are very informative in that they have had the experience of the casual hook-up and realized that it’s not necessarily what they want and that they understand that relationships can be more than that and much more fulfilling. I’d rather have youth learn that lesson and “get it out of their systems” before entering a committed relationship than entering into a committed relationship too soon and eventually cheating because they didn’t have those experiences and felt like they were missing out.
